American Association for Employment in Education, Inc.
Provides a link to all community colleges across the United States. You may also wish to order an inexpensive booklet for $5 (members) or $8 (non-members) entitled, The Higher Education Job Search- A Guide for Prospective Faculty Members.

Provides an annotated list of both public and private schools, including salary information and other educational opportunities information networks.

The Chronicle of Higher Education
Lists teaching/research positions as well as administrative and student services positions in academic settings. Published weekly and online in a searchable format with new jobs posted every Friday. Non-subscribers can view the listings for free with a one-week delay. In some fields, tenure-track jobs at major institutions are advertised here. Otherwise, ads consist primarily of smaller colleges/universities and community colleges.

Scholarly Societies Project
To locate your discipline’s scholarly association and those related, this site contains a searchable database of more than 1700 scholarly societies organized into 46 subject headings. Some post job boards.

H-Net Job Guide
Lists positions under three headings: History and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Rhetoric and Communications (including Composition and other related fields). H-Net specializes in smaller schools as well as replacement or temporary jobs. It also lists many academic jobs from Commonwealth countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and the UK as well as other quasi-academic jobs in research centers, museums, libraries, etc.

Academic 360
While the site does not post academic jobs, it is one-stop, gateway to a collection of academia-related websites that do, including U.S., UK, Canada and Australia universities. The site is not restricted to teaching positions. The site offers information by four Categories:

  • Individual College and Universities (by country or state)
  • Faculty and Administration: a series of links to organizations and associations like Women in Higher Education or Nation Job, Inc.
  • Faculty by Discipline: provides links to organizations and resources close to 30 different field headings from American studies to Social Work.
  • Administration by Function: provides links under 22 headings from Academic Advising to Technology.

Christian Higher Education
Academic listings can be found under Job Postings at Christian Higher Education websites from around the country. Many, though not all, look for qualified applicants who are “in agreement with the college’s theological and lifestyle requirements.”

University Job Bank
An online recruiting/career service developed and owned By Higher Education and Career Information Network, LLC.The primary focus is on academic careers in addition to some industry, government, and non-profit sectors.

Yahoo’s College and Universities Category
This site is useful for targeting a particular set of schools, especially if you are interested in more than teaching/research jobs. Click on California Colleges and Universities for this geographic location. Most homepages have a direct link to campus employment.
