Attending the workshop for Art and Theater Majors were panelists Shelia Sullivan from UCSB’s Carsey Wolf Center and Sophie Leddeck from the Museum of Contemporary Art. Each panelist discussed their programs, the internships being offered right now and what they are looking for in their interns. Things they both are looking for in their interns are passion, enthusiasm, and good communication and critical-thinking skills.
Carsey Wolf Center, UCSB – The internship offered through the Carsey Wolf Center accepts 8-10 students each session who show interest in developing contacts and learning how media works in either Santa Barbara or Los Angeles areas. Interns must commit 6 hours a week for 10 weeks, though in some cases it may take longer. The internship is structured so that host companies and the students know what they have to provide. Students can be placed in many different fields and have the opportunity to work with host organizations like CBS TV, Pacific Standard, MTV, Comedy Central, and talent agencies. To apply, students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, a letter of recommendation, and have taken FMST 54. To send in an application or find out more information visit carseywolf.ucsb.edu/internships
Museum of Contemporary Art – The Museum of Contemporary Art is a non-profit museum located in the Paseo Nuevo mall. The museum consists of many different departments including an education component which offers 10 internships. The education component provides outreach, lectures, and public programs in order to obtain grants. Interns in this department are paired with artists, can give tours of exhibitions, welcome and greet guests, and have a chance to rotate between front and back administration of the museum.
